It's Allied Health Professions Week (Nov. 1-7) and the California Hospital Association just released this video that explains why we have shortages in these professions, which make up 60% of healthcare workers and include over 200 specialties.

CHA is pleased to announce the release of a brief educational video honoring allied health workers during Allied Health Professions week, November 1-7. Sponsored by CHA and The California Endowment, the video is part of a larger effort being led by CHA’s Healthcare Workforce Coalition. The coalition was established by CHA in response to the need for a coordinated, statewide effort to develop and implement long-term strategies that will address allied health workforce shortages in the state.
The release of the video coincides with Allied Health Professions Week which is celebrated nationally and locally to honor health care providers working in the more than 200 allied health professions. When most people think about health care, they think about doctors and nurses who provide care directly to patients. However, there are many health care professionals working behind the scenes to provide laboratory, imaging and other critical services needed to diagnose and treat patients. This segment of the health care workforce, called allied health, comprises 60 percent of all health care providers. Allied health professionals have a tremendous impact on health care delivery by supporting, facilitating and complementing the roles of physicians, nurses and other health care providers.
This video pays tribute to the important role that allied health professionals play in the delivery of health care, and emphasizes the long-term need for an adequate supply of qualified, diverse allied health professionals given California’s growing and aging population.

The "Wellness Employer of the Year" and "Disability Friendly Employer of the Year" awards will be given at the 2009 Southern California Health Care Summit in order to recognize employer leadership in key areas promoting health within their communities. Providing a positive and healthy work environment is crucial for the betterment of the community and economy. Event Dedicated to Helping IE Ex-Offenders Find Gainful Employment

The Inland Empire New Beginnings Coalition, a collaborative of organizations committed to increasing the ability for people who are recovering from past mistakes to find employment for the betterment of themselves and the communities in which they live, is hosting the New Beginnings Resource Day on Wednesday, April 29 from 9:30am-3:30pm at DPSS (Department of Public Social Services - 5961 Mission Blvd, Riverside, CA 92509).
This event will provide attendees with workshops and one-on-one sessions throughout the day that are focused on a variety of topics like expungement, financial advice and resume writing. While this event is not a job fair, these activities are designed to provide local ex-offenders with the resources they need to improve their lives. “There is a large untapped skilled labor force of people needing employment”, says Jodie Knez, U.S. Probation Officer. “While they are people who have made a mistake and have a felony on their record they are eager to prove that they are qualified to be employed”.

Before you go for the interview, • Do your research. Be creative in seeking sources. Research them, their market conditions, advertising and public image. Know about their competitors. If you were buying the company or its stock, what would you want to know? It’s past, present and, most importantly, future. During the interview maintain flexibility. Stay in the moment. No matter how much you may want to show off your research and ideas or tell them about yourself. Job descriptions change and unless you asked for the most recent one (always a good idea -ask HR), they still may be going in a different direction. So LISTEN to them, what they say and what they don’t say. Maybe what you thought they need is not what they think they need. Remember, they are doing the hiring; follow their agenda, not your own. Confirm and explore what they need and want. If you know yourself and your strengths well enough, you can customize your story to clearly demonstrate that you meet their needs. As much of the world is experiencing vast losses due to a failing economy, employees are seeking to secure their jobs. This talk is focused around how to gain a competitive advantage in the job market. This meeting will review current market statistics, and discuss competitive strategies for securing employment. A 3-step approach for achieving a competitive employment advantage is proposed. The approach is centered on modernizing learning and connectivity using web technologies. Practical examples will be discussed in detail. Our Presenter: Erik Rolland, PhD Erik Rolland, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Management Information Systems at the A. Gary Anderson Graduate School of Management, as well as with the Computer Science & Engineering Department at the Bourns College of Engineering at the University of California at Riverside. Prior to entering academia, Dr. Rolland was a management consultant in Europe.
