Professional Networking Networking is a vital part of your job search. One of the best ways for businesses to market their products and services is through networking. When you are searching for a new job, you are trying to market yourself, so why not use some of the same networking techniques that businesses use. Many surveys show that most people find jobs through networking. Someone that you know or meet knows about a job that is right for you. Or, someone that you know or meet knows someone, who knows someone, who knows about a job for you. Here are a few networking tips. Professional Networking · Attend local meetings of organizations in your chosen industry. An online search can usually locate local chapters of organizations and let you know when they will next meet. · Attend job fairs. Information on local job fairs can be found through local newspapers, local job search periodicals, online job boards (Jobing.com), online searches, and through career development organizations such as Workforce Development Centers. · If you have been displaced from your job, some companies offer free outplacement services such as resume writing, interview preparation, and group meeting, as part of a severance package. Take advantage of these free services. · When attending professional meetings, take a folder with something to write on and copies of your resume. It is also a good idea to exchange business cards with other professionals and potential employers that you meet. For more tips see … … “Networking Tools,” posted on Jobing.com Blogs on 01/11/08.
