Jobing Description
The Human Resources Generalist is our front line employee who is responsible for executing a variety of business critical employee related tasks such as staffing, compensation, benefits, training, recruitment, separations, safety, and regulatory compliance programs. The ideal candidate must be able to thrive in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment, while being a team player with proven abilities to multi-task. The ideal candidate will take ownership in maintaining an overall positive office environment.

Primary Duties and Accountabilities

Employee Benefit Programs and HR Administration
  • Coordinates and conducts orientation programs for newly hired employees and processes all necessary new hire paperwork.
  • Coordinates the annual open enrollment for Company benefit plans; coordinates benefit administration with the carriers for the Company and assists employees with concerns, issues and or problems related to the Company’s benefit programs.
  • Ensures that all personnel records are maintained in accordance with company policy and state/federal laws.
  • Assists employees with the interpretation and correct application of Company policies, procedures and programs.
  • Prepares and presents human resources related reports, documents and other necessary correspondence.
  • May represent Company at personnel-related hearings and investigations.
  • Administers mandatory leave programs (FMLA/CFRA/PDL).
  • Strategize with management to develop and implement succession plans for their departments.
  • Use contacts and resources to facilitate meetings, research and ideas in order to reduce company costs on HR programs, events and meetings.
  • Special projects and duties as assigned.

    Employee Relations
  • Administer Human Resources policies and procedures to ensure consistent and fair treatment of all employees at all levels.
  • Facilitate employee relations programs to ensure good understanding and communication between all employees.
  • Oversees the accurate processing of forms and documents related to hiring, change of status, and termination of Company employees such as state agency questionnaires and unemployment appeal hearing documentation.
  • Maintains contact with various governmental and regulatory agencies as needed or required and ensures compliance with reporting and other requirements of regulatory agencies.
  • Coordinates all company sponsored events, (i.e. holiday party, company picnic).
  • Assists immediate supervisor with providing coaching, guidance and assistance to first line supervisors and managers in the areas of employee relations, disciplinary action, conflict resolution and other human resources management issues.
  • Interacts effectively, professionally, confidentially and diplomatically in all employee relations, always projecting a professional image in keeping with Company goals and objectives while exercising the highest degree of confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Listens to disputes and builds better relationships among employees.

    Recruitment and Selection
  • Manages and oversees on-site recruiting practices in connection with temporary agencies. Ensures appropriate staffing levels and assists senior management with rate negotiations.
  • Interviews and recommends for selection and hiring qualified applicants for the assigned internal customer for entry-level to mid-management positions; develop employment advertisements, interviews and tests applicants, extends employment offers and conducts background and reference checks.

    Safety & Worker’s Compensation
  • Complies with all Company policies, procedures and programs, including safety rules and regulations.
  • Investigates work-related accidents and administers appropriate procedures in compliance with OSHA.
  • Effectively manages workers’ compensation claims to ensure timely resolution and management of risks.
  • Conducts safety meetings for new and existing employees.

  • Skills / Requirements

    Employee Education, Training & Retention Programs
  • Coordinates and may occasionally conduct training and development programs.
  • Coordinates CPR/First Aid Emergency Response Team.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to work well across departments, and successfully works with persons at all levels.
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Aptitude to dig into issues, find solutions, with a “Roll-up the sleeves” and “get-it-done” attitude.
  • Knowledge of applicable State and Federal Employment Laws to ensure that Human Resources practices and recruitment programs are in compliance.
  • Some knowledge of risk management, safety management & workers compensation.

    Education and Certification Level
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field from an accredited college or university.
  • HR certifications desirable.

    Experience Required
  • 5 years HR Generalist experience or other Human Resources experience preferred.
  • Must be bilingual English/Spanish.
  • Excellent office computer skills required (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Visio); HRIS experience a plus.
  • Strong knowledge and application of applicable employment and labor laws.
  • Experience in manufacturing, construction, or industrial environment desired.
  • Experience should include managing multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment, and a strong commitment to customer service while working daily with sensitive information.
  • Proven experience in building credible relationships with business leaders.
  • Ability to influence management in order to meet business objectives.
