My customer has manufactured exterior lighting and signaling systems for major automotive manufacturers for almost 25 years! Committed to continuous quality improvement, my client has earned QS-9000 and ISO-14001 certificates of approval. Now, almost 25 years and numerous industry firsts later, the company is an established industry leader, employing over 1,000 people. The Seymour, Indiana facility encompasses more than half a million square feet, and the company operates a manufacturing facility in Queretaro, Mexico and a sales office in Dearborn, Michigan. Leading automotive manufacturers rely on my client for innovative exterior lighting and signaling systems. 1 out of 4 vehicles produced in the world carry my client’s products. Currently, my client has a need for an Design Engineering leader to work in Seymour, Indiana. As an Leader for this prestigious company some of your responsibilities will include:

  • You will have full responsibility for the accuracy, completeness, practical tolerances, compliance with standard procedures and design manufacturing requirements of the finished 3D CAD data, 2D CAD drawings, and the efficiency under which they are created.

    Your challenges....
  • You will manage product team consisting of mechanic technicians, mechanics engineers, design engineers and mechatronic engineers to ensure the product robustness meeting customer specifications in terms of functionality and warranty requirements
  • You will lead all activities in project team related to 2D and 3D CAD design of the lighting system consisting of, but not limited to Front and Rear Lighting and other related products.
  • You are responsible for quality of both 3D and 2D related CAD and drawings in Valeo's native design package of Catia.
  • You are responsible for part creation and maintenance in PLM system.
  • You will communicate with the customer to validate customer data submissions including engineering changes.
  • You will manage all design reviews related the development of the lighting system or product.
  • You will validate that all designs conform to Valeo Standards, Customer Specifications, and Government Regulations.
  • You will be Involved with prototype and production builds as needed at internal, supplier and customer location as required by Project Team Leader.
  • You will manage and coach design team locally and internationally regarding the lighting system development.
  • You will participate in quality, warranty and production or other incidents to resolve and improve product related issues.
  • You must be willing to travel locally, regionally and internationally as required by project team to support program related activities.
  • You will interface with the customer engineers on a daily basis face to face or via email communications.
  • You will create and manage timelines related to design activities in line with overall program milestones.
  • You will obtain and interpret FEA studies and results in collaboration with Product Engineer.
  • You will support all quoting activities as it pertains to preliminary 2D and 3D CAD Design.
  • You will ensure proper preparation and maintenance for all Mechanical Design Reviews.
  • You will provide 2D and 3D data to support VRF creation and maintenance.

  • You have a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or another engineering discipline or equivalent experience.
  • You have a minimum of 5 years of U.S. based professional experience in automotive or similar, strong preference for candidates with automotive lighting knowledge.
  • You have a minimum of 1 year experience controlling 2D / 3D CAD in internal or external product data management database (Matrix / Team Center, etc.).
  • In addition....
  • You must be able to work without requiring visa sponsorship.
  • You have experience in 2D & 3D CAD, CATIA V5, Pro E or NX strongly preferred.
  • You have strong knowledge of design for plastics injection, understanding of tool design, coating, and assembly of plastics.
  • You understand ASME / ISO GD&T Standard proficiency. Datum structure setup based on assembly constraint, and appropriate fixture design to meet drawing intent.
  • You have the ability to interpret customer specifications and translate into physical design requirements.
  • You have strong analytical ability with experience interpreting initial and continuous conformance dimensional results, understanding of process variation and design control limits/capability.
  • You understand the principles of engineering development process (DFMEA/PFMEA), change control, PPAP submission, product & process validation.
  • You have e xcellent time management & communication skills.
  • You are proficient with MS-Office suite and Google-based office applications, strong written & oral communication.
  • You have methodical problem solving skills
