Park Maintenance Assistant (Parks and Civic Center)

This is a part-time position. The incumbent will work up to 20 hours per week. Work schedule is to be determined. There are currently three vacancies. Two at Parks and one at Civic Center area but this number is subject to change. This recruitment is open until further notice and can close at any time and without notice. Bilingual pay is an additional $1.01/hr, if applicable.
- Essential Functions Include But Are Not Limited To
Under general supervision, opens and closes park restrooms; assists in maintaining cleanliness of facilities; assists with aquatic custodial maintenance of lakes, pools, fountains and zoo aquatic exhibits; assists with synthetic sport turf grooming and cleaning maintenance; assists with keeping civic center and park facilities safe and clean by performing general landscape/grounds maintenance and minor repair duties; may operate various related tools and equipment; loads and unloads objects and materials weighing up to 95 pounds; conducts routine maintenance checks; reports unsafe conditions when discovered; participates cooperatively in work team activities and performs other related tasks as required.
- Minimum Qualifications
Must be at least 18 years of age and possess and retain a California Class "C" Driver's License as a condition of employment; a minimum of one year of job related experience in landscaping maintenance; education and experience equivalent to high school graduation; basic to intermediate skill in using a personal computer and software programs; or an equivalent combination of training and experience, which provides the desirable knowledge and abilities:
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of: personal computers, including current office software applications and Windows operating system. Basic landscape and facility maintenance procedures.
Ability to: work in a team environment and provide quality internal customer support to end-users; understand and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing; use correct grammar and spelling; use telephone, copier and computer; be well-organized and pay attention to detail; exercise good judgment; work in a public setting; communicate effectively with the general public and be courteous and professional when dealing with others; perform job duties with a high degree of accuracy.
Special Requirement: Must be able to lift, carry, push or pull items weighing up to 95 lbs.
Special Working Condition: Must be willing and able to work irregular hours, including weekends, evenings and holidays, as needed, as a condition of employment.
