Job Description

EMCORE Corporation has an immediate need for an Engineer R&D (Mechanical Engineer) with strong hands-on experience of complex opto-mechanical systems.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Design mechanical systems of Fiber Optic Gyro based sensor and Inertial measurement unit systems.
  • Develop tooling & fixtures for manufacturing and assembling
  • Drawing Release and Prototype Procurement Support
  • Perform FEA (thermal, vibrations and structural) to verify design performance
  • Support PCB layout and electronic packaging
  • Perform failure analysis and verification testing
  • Work with QA to ensure design meet industry standards
  • Complete projects within quality, budget and schedule requirements

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

•         Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in a related engineering or science field

•         Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION:

·         M.S. in Mechanical, Opto-Mechanical, Materials Science or Physics

 

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:

•         3 years minimum experience in mechanical design and development with a track record for product realization in the field of Mechanical and/or Opto-Mech engineering.

·         Experience with CAD design tools such as SolidWorks, preferably working on opto-mechanical systems and system design

·         Proficient with FEA analysis with COMSOL, ANSYS or other packages. Experience with thermal, structural, thermal-electrical analysis.

•         Demonstrated ability to work proactively and constructively with multidisciplinary teams.

•         Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

 

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: 

·         Experience with packaging and routing of optical fiber

·         Prior experience in the mechanical design and fabrication of Fiber Optic Gyros and IMUs (Inertial Measurement Units)

·         Design of precision Sensors or Sensor sub-systems

·         Experience working in DoD / Military product environment

·         Experience with high volume / low cost product design
