General Manager (Queen Mary)

We are currently searching for an experienced and dynamic General Manager to lead the team at the legendary Queen Mary. Located in the Port of Long Beach, the Queen Mary features a rich maritime history, authentic Art Deco décor, and stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and Long Beach city skyline. At the time of her maiden voyage in May of 1936, she was considered the grandest ocean liner ever built. Today the Queen Mary is one of Los Angeles’ major attractions, drawing visitors from around the world. The Queen Mary boasts 346 staterooms spanning three decks including nine full suites which have hosted a variety of colorful characters from World War II leaders to British royalty and the stars of Hollywood’s golden era. The ship also features 80,000 square feet of event space in 17 remarkable Art Deco salons as well as a tri-level, 45,000-square-foot Exhibit Hall; signature restaurants including the award-winning Sir Winston’s and Chelsea Chowder House & Bar; and a selection of retail shops.

As a General Manager, you’ll be responsible for effectively leading and managing all aspects of the Queen Mary and for delivering results that contribute to the mission and overall success of the property by accomplishing performance objectives focused on driving sales and profitability, guest satisfaction and crew member satisfaction.

Key responsibilities of a General Manager include:
• Functioning as the primary strategic leader of the hotel with responsibility for all aspects of the operation, including guest and associate satisfaction, human resources, financial performance and sales and revenue generation
• Analyzing business results and working with the leadership team to develop effective strategies to address needs. Making key decisions and overseeing execution, removing obstacles to success and ensuring appropriate resources are available to achieve business results.
• Ensuring property standards are met with the objective of meeting or exceeding guest expectations; communicating follow-up actions to the team as necessary
• Driving the sales culture in the hotel through active involvement in the sales process, including encouraging the leadership team to develop effective revenue management strategies and setting aggressive goals that will drive the property’s financial performance.
• Preparing an annual budget and business plan in collaboration with appropriate department heads to ensure the smooth operations of the hotel, set financial goals and plan expenses
• Monitoring actual sales and revenues to determine variance and assess goal accomplishments
• Building and enhancing positive community relations

Job Requirements:
If you’re an experienced, high energy hotel professional with a passion for leading then you just might be the General Manager candidate we’re looking for. In addition, the ideal candidate will meet the following requirements:
• Proven track record in delivering financial results
• Proven track record of building a cohesive team while facilitating accomplishment of goals
• Ability to inspire associates and to create a culture of care and accountability
• Commitment to exceptional guest service
• Strong communication and listening skills, excellent public speaking, reading and writing skills
• Aptitude in financial management, financial reports and analysis is a must
• Excellent leadership skills with a hands-on, lead-by-example work style
• Asset management experience a plus, direct regular contact with ownership a must
• Knowledge of third party revenue streams and experience driving sales and managing marketing and PR initiatives is desirable

Preferred & Required Experience:
• A minimum of five years experience as a General Manager in a fast paced full-service property is required. GM experience at a resort environment is strongly preferred
• Degree in a discipline such as hotel management or business preferred
