An Education Assistant I performs routine, unskilled classroom instructional and support tasks, under the close supervision of a teacher, which do not require previous knowledge of classroom procedures and practices.

IMPORTANT NOTES:
VACANCIES: All positions are part-time. Various opportunities exist for permanent and on call (temporary) assignments. The eligibility list will be used to fill both types of positions based on the immediate and future needs of the district.

Permanent positions are Monday through Friday and are 3 to 3.5 hours per day. Work shifts are primarily between the hours of 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Assignments may be in any part of the district boundaries (Glendale, La Crescenta or Montrose).

Substitute positions are on call and as needed and are 3 to 3.5 hours per day. Work shifts are primarily between the hours of 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. Substitute employees are paid a fixed hourly rate at the first step only ($13.00). Assignments may be in any part of the district boundaries (Glendale, La Crescenta or Montrose).
 
Email is the primary form of communication related to the recruitment process. Paper notices are no longer mailed out.

Performs a wide variety of non-teaching, routine tasks in accordance with instructions from the teacher.
Provides supervision to children under the direction of a teacher.
Assists teacher in preparing activities for students and cleaning up after the completion of the activities.
Assists in class supervision on field trips.
Assists in serving nutritional meals and designated snacks.
Assists in napping routine, making beds, and changing children's bed linens.
Performs related work as required.

Note regarding the salary: The listed salary rate represents the first and last steps of the salary range. All new employees start at the first step. Substitute employees are paid a fixed hourly rate at the first step only ($13.00).

The examination process consists of a written test weighted 40% of the total score and the qualifications appraisal interview test weighted 60% of the total score. Candidates will be notified of the dates of the examination parts at the appropriate time. All candidates must pass the written test and the qualifications appraisal interview with a minimum score of 70 on each test part. The multiple-choice written test will measure reading comprehension, English, and basic mathematics.

Fingerprint Requirement: California state law requires that all classified employees be fingerprinted. Candidates are responsible for paying the fees. For the classification of Education Assistant I, total fees for DOJ and FBI are currently $74.00.

Certificate of Tuberculosis Examination: New employees must furnish proof that within the last 60 days they have had a Mantoux tuberculin skin test.
