The successful candidate will be responsible for providing functional leadership and direction to program communication engineers, ensuring they have sufficient statement of work, managing member performance (including engagement strategies for higher performers and corrective actions for lower performers), coordinating with programs to ensure appropriate staffing/destaffing actions are developed and executed relative to their section, and ensuring their members are familiar with and use required engineering processes and tools. The candidate needs to have experience with supplier management and the integration and test of aviation related communications systems or component sub-systems, RF Line of Sight, SATCOM, Payloads, and tactical network design, installation and troubleshooting experience in deployed environment.
Roles and Responsibilities
•Ensuring members have sufficient statement of work, making decisions regarding awards, balancing resources among programs, and verifying proper charging practices are followed
•Managing member performance, creating and delivering performance evaluations, overseeing the salary review process, and supervising employee development and mentoring efforts (including engagement strategies for higher performers and corrective actions for lower performers)
•Coordinating with programs to ensure appropriate staffing/destaffing actions are developed and executed relative to their section, and managing employee movement between programs
•Making sure members are familiar with and use required engineering processes and tools
•Meeting indirect budget targets and interpreting higher level guidance for implementation within the organization.
The people management responsibilities described above, are expected to account for an average of 20% of the candidate's time. The remaining percentage of the candidate's time is to perform project assigned engineering responsibilities within the Special Programs Communications IPT. For candidates currently assigned to the Special Programs Communications IPT, any tasking to be reassigned,(if any), must be coordinated with candidate's current project lead.
- BS in Engineering (Electrical / Computer Science, Information Technology or Aerospace) or related technical discipline (Physics, Mathematics) STEM.
- Minimum of 5 years experience in avionics with a focus on communication systems and subsystems.
- Demonstrated technical leadership abilities.
- DoD Secret Security Clearance with ability to obtain a SAR Clearance
- Highly proficient in technical team management of avionics engineers and direct customer relations. Demonstrated experience in leading complex technical projects to successful completion by meeting technical, cost and schedule requirements and satisfying customer expectations.
