Job Description

In the Data and Analytics (DnA) team within Pacific Life’s Retirement Solutions Division, we are at the forefront of advanced analytics and visualization, and we need a key Senior Quantitative Fulltime Consultant to help us hit ambitious targets and exciting new heights. This is an all-new, high impact and high visibility role reporting directly to the AVP-Advanced Analytics and Planning.

The Retirement Solutions Division leverages its strengths in product development, technology, services and risk management to create retirement solutions for individuals, families, and businesses.  With the guidance of financial professionals, customers have access to an array of annuities and mutual funds designed to help grow assets and to provide retirement income for financial independence.

About the Team:

The DnA team represents the Center of Enablement and “Hub” of all things analytics within the Retirement Solutions Division which has made data-driven decision-making a priority. Our aim is to enable problem-solvers to have real-time strong quantitative insights at the right time to drive optimal outcomes for customers, sales partners and employees alike. Our team is comprised of PhD-level Data Scientists, highly experienced Data Engineers, and a leadership with significant experience in corporate strategy, finance and advanced analytics.

Currently, our team is working on several exciting projects in partnership with Product, Sales, Marketing, Compliance, Finance, Operations, IT and Strategy in a Do/Partner/Support model. We are experimenting with AI, unstructured data, and cutting-edge data structures, while also working to drive ROI through more tried and true methods including General Linear Models, clustering and decision tree-based methods. We also have a heavy emphasis on empowering all functions to build models and perform analysis themselves through our Community of Practice.

The DnA team is looking to add a business-focused, quantitatively rigorous professional to help us drive results in partnership with our key stakeholders across the company and division. This role will have heavy involvement in all facets of our analytics strategy, with a focus on ensuring we have a rigorous approach to selecting, prioritizing, delivering and measuring value for our engagements; the Consultant will be tasked with building out future projections for resources to manage our incoming work pipeline.  The Consultant will also represent our team and work with our key partner organizations to continue embracing change and making analytics embedded within all processes.

Key Responsibilities:

Program and Portfolio Management: Project Management of the Analytics Efforts/Portfolio for the RSD DnA team. This will include managing work intake, triage, scorecarding, reporting and presenting results to our Steering Committee and senior executives. As part of this delivery workstream, the Consultant will be expected to represent the interests of the team in negotiations for resources as well. Lastly, this workstream will include financial and resource projections and strategic planning, as well as estimates and NPV/IRR/ROI calculation of our engagements to ensure we are focused on highest priority research items first.

Analytics and Financial Research: This will include investigating the ROI of emerging technologies, best practice operating models and opportunities to optimize analytics across the enterprise. Through this workstream, we will continuously be looking to other industries and our own to identify new ways to work and deliver quantitative research. The Consultant will also actively partner with our Data Scientists to rapidly source, test, discard or implement new technologies in the analytics space.

Organizational Change Management: This will include facilitating/managing conversations with key stakeholders and suppliers required to drive analytics across the company, including Vendor Management, Finance, IT, Risk, and Compliance. A key focus will be to ensure we are driving analytics as a part of every employee’s job description and bring all functions on our journey while ensuring we maintain an appropriate balance against risk.

Modeling and Hands-on Analytics:  This will include opportunities to grow the new Consultant’s analytical skill, including time series, clustering, statistics and more advanced methods. Models could touch on both client engagements (e.g. Marketing or Sales) or could be related to the efficacy of new technologies or tools to drive business outcomes.
