Job Description

Position Overview:
As the Manager - Logistics (Transport) you will be responsible for planning ideal transport routes, negotiating rates with third party carriers, and overseeing the inbound logistics of goods to Regional Distribution Centers. In this fast paced and exciting area of our client's business, you will perform an important central role ensuring a smooth, efficient supply of goods. You will support the Logistics team with all aspects of their transportation needs, ensuring the quality of our products is maintained throughout the supply chain.
Responsibilities:
  • Manage all transportation activities including but not limited to planning, scheduling and routing of all transport operations for cost-effective, efficient, and on-time delivery
  • Establish and provide guidance for standard routing and cubing process
  • Keep track of quality, stock levels, delivery times, and transport costs
  • Ensure that orders arrive and are dispatched on time to the appropriate destinations and in the expected quantities
  • Analyze transportation impact of potential sourcing changes, promotions, and new-item launches
  • Stays current with market trends and supplier capabilities while demonstrating strategic thinking, transportation knowledge, and functional expertise
  • Locate and introduce new and alternative sources of transportation to ensure quality and reliable transportation of goods and services at the optimal total cost
  • Maintain metrics and analyze data to assess performance and implement improvements
  • Review systematic and operational processes in all areas of responsibility to streamline the operation, improve efficiencies, and cost structure
  • Ensure operational gross margin in areas of responsibilities, cost, productivity, accuracy, and timeliness targets are met or exceeded
  • Prepare and monitor freight expense reports to ensure cost alignment to budget as well as identification and correction of deviations
  • Liaise and negotiate with 3rd parties to move goods as per customer requirements, managing communication and control throughout the process, ensuring all deadlines are met
  • Manage and negotiate contracts, rates, transportation, handling costs and relationship with all third party logistics providers and common carriers that service operations
  • Assign accountability within staff to track and trend key performance indicators
  • Ensure that transportation procedures, including routing parameters, offer cost-effective solutions that will drive profitability
  • Audit operations as needed to ensure compliance
  • A knowledge of CTPAT and ISO certifications
  • Work with Distribution Center Manager to resolve issues between warehousing and distribution
  • Identify, coordinate, communicate, and implement logistics improvements across the network
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Capable of interacting of effectively with all levels of personnel in a fast paced, just-in-time delivery environment
  • Solid, progressive experience in all aspects of logistics
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to make sound decisions, multi-task, and prioritize
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Advanced level skills in MS Excel such as working with formulas, data tables, pivot charts, queries, custom functions, data management, and analysis
  • Extensive experience in rate database management, freight payable process, and freight claims processes
  • Experience with ground transportation operations including DOT, OSHA, and all related safety regulations
  • Have knowledge of distribution systems including order routing, backhaul, and transfer procedures
  • Solid knowledge of government regulations within the trucking industry
  • Demonstrable ability to lead and manage staff
  • Be able to write reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals, and inter-company memos/outside correspondence
  • Be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects
Required Education, Certifications/ Licenses, Related Experience:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics or Supply Chain preferred and/or 3 - 5 years of logistics management-transportation experience or in a similar role
